It was a very long time ago - certainly 30 years, and well before there was a bridge - so Skye felt far more remote than it does now. We caught the bus from Kent, and the ferry and another bus, so were free to wander anywhere with our tent on our back, and to sleep in glens and clifftops with only the sea and the sky and that huge landscape. It was heaven.
Sounds like heaven! And wow you went there from Kent, it really WAS remote! Yep there's something about carrying everything you need with you that's incredibly liberating. I love my house and my books and my clothes, but sometimes it's incredible to leave it all behind and just get out there.
